Chapter 10:
“Can we see the book again?” Viktor asked impatiently as the three of them, Viktor, Jon,
and Yrsa met after school had ended. “It’s such a nice book.”
“Okay, okay,” Yrsa said as the three of them sat down at a bench in the schoolyard.
Page 17 in the book showed a Yule Lad with big, red cheeks and an even bigger tongue
sticking out of his mouth.
“Uh,” Viktor said hesitantly, looking at the weird-looking Yule Lad. “Bowl-Licker.”
“Right,” Yrsa said. “He used to wait for people to put down their askurs, and then he
would steal them!”
“Why did he do that?”
“I don’t know,” Yrsa laughed. “He is a silly Lad. The next one is-”
“Door-Slammer,” Viktor and Jon said at the same time. Everyone knew Door-Slammer.
“He used to-”
“Slam the doors at night,” Viktor and Jon said before Yrsa could even utter another
word.
Yrsa laughed. “Yeah, he used to be really mean. Good thing he isn’t mean anymore,
huh?”
They turned the book to page 19, where a Lad with a huge hands and small ears, sat
with a bucket and his mouth full of skyr.
“Skyr-Gobbler!” They all said at the same time.
“He is a hungry, hungry fellow,” Jon said with a big grin on his face.
“No kidding,” Yrsa laughed. “Well, I have to go home, guys. See you tomorrow!”
